IANética is a technohumanist project of Las Naves, the innovation centre of Valencia City Council, whose aim is to contribute to the development of an ethics for the age of Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Everything, in which technology is at the service of people.
As part of it, the workshop ‘Sustainable, Gender-Aware SEO Positioning’ has been organised. Its aim is to achieve a sustainable and inclusive use of the Internet, in a session that sets out to pose two challenges arising from the mass use of the Internet, its algorithms and data processing. It is based on the social challenges identified in the “Spain’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy”:
- Social challenge 1: Reduce the gender gap in AI in employment and leadership.
- Social challenge 2: Support the ecological transition and the reduction of the carbon footprint.
The session is built around two main objectives or axes to be addressed:
Objective 1: Why is the Internet not environmentally sustainable? How do we consume the Internet? Do we take into account the energy expenditure involved in exchanging data, or in maintaining servers? And the consequences it has for the environment?
Objective 2: Explain why the Internet is not inclusive: Why do gender biases still exist on the Internet? How can they be avoided?
